A primer on iPhone cases

When you buy an iPhone, one of the first decisions you’re going to have to make is whether to choose an iPhone case or not. Many people like to leave the device naked so as to show off its sleekness. To them, clothing the iPhone is not short of a crime. However, iPhones, mobile phones and iPods are delicate. Besides, they are also prone to scratches and damage simply because most people handle them so readily. Some of these devices are too glossy for their own good and they can easily slip out of your hand and land on the hard floor. Another bane is the smudge of finger prints. Some have a cushioning effect. Some are smooth, while others appear metallic. Some look trendy while others serve as a fitting reminder to why the rest of the world believes you are slight off-center! In short, there is something for every one!

• Room in your pocket

• The wear and tear your phone is likely to be exposed to

One of the easiest ways of choosing iPhone cases is to shop for iPhone cases made by phone manufacturers. Apple, BlackBerry, LG, Nokia, Motorola and Sanyo produce their own cases. These are suited for particular models and they are a perfect match in terms of size and fit.

However, if you are looking for something funky and something with a little character, you can look for iPhone cases that are colorful and attractive. Some of them even have back cases and little ‘feet’ to help the phone stand up! Some of the soft silicone cases available in the market have special cutouts for docking ports and for speakers. These provide extra padding for the iPhone, thus protecting the device from accidental humps and bumps.

When you choose a case for your iPhone, it is easy to get carried away by the design and color, forgetting all about comfort and protection. Extreme designs are not handy and they cannot be used on a daily basis. If your case is bulky, you won’t find it easy to carry the phone around. Some of these cases are not friendly to USB ports or charging docks, which means you need to remove these protective jackets before you set them up for charging. That is why it’s a good thing to think ahead and make a wise purchase.
